About Pregabalin
Medically reviewed by Dr Khizer Hussain Junaidy, MD Pharmacology, Diabetologist & Bariatric Physician, on 23 Oct 2026.
What it is for
Reduces nerve pain, including burning feet in diabetes, and is used in some anxiety and seizure conditions.
How to take it
Take it as advised, often at bedtime at first. Do not stop it suddenly.
Common side effects
- Sleepiness, dizziness.
- Weight gain, swelling of feet.
Call your doctor if
- Low mood or thoughts of self-harm.
- Swelling of the face or breathing difficulty.
Take care
Avoid alcohol. Do not drive if it makes you sleepy. Tell the doctor if you have kidney disease, as the dose may need to be lower. Taking it with strong painkillers (opioids) or sleeping pills can cause heavy drowsiness and slow breathing. It is a prescription-only medicine that can be misused, so we sell it only at our counter against the original prescription.
From our clinic: The dose is lowered slowly when stopping.
